Teller asked if I could videotape his amazing spook show Play Dead and I suggested we shoot it like a film. Amazingly my seeing the show eight times along with my crew doing a fantastic job of shooting the live show, turned out so well that we’re taking the finished creation, carefully retooled by Teller and Emery Emery (The Aristocrats), and debuting at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal! Check out the trailer and other info at the link below. Hope you get a chance to experience Todd Robbins and Teller’s amazing piece!
Voting for the 10th Annual Rondo Hatton Awards has begun and Dark Stars Rising is in very good company. Anyone can vote by copying and pasting the ballot and sending in to email@example.com by Sunday, April 1, at midnight. You can vote for one, a few, or all categories. Have fun looking over this list, and check out some of the great artwork in the magazine covers section. Good stuff!

The Horror Writers Association has released the list of works published in 2011 that are on the preliminary ballot for the 25th annual Bram Stoker Awards and Dark Stars Rising has been recommended by the Jury as a possible contender for Superior Achievement in Non-Fiction! Woo! There are so many great names on this year’s list including Stephen King, Peter Straub, Alan Moore, Joyce Carol Oates, Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, Rocky Wood, Thomas Roche, Ellen Datlow, etc. etc. Here’s the link so you can have a look for yourself and maybe find some new reading material in the process. On Feb. 18 final ballot is released and the awards are given out during the World Horror Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, this year, March 29-31. Whee!
Clive Barker just sent this very nice note about ABCs of Death entry T IS FOR TRICK so I feel comfortable sharing it with folks who might be interested in checking it out and possibly ‘hitting the Heart Vote button’ like Clive describes at the link below. I’m currently in 13th place out of 171 entries! Top ten go on to the next level. If you like it, please VOTE! Hope you’re good! Cheers!
Hey there Shade,
That was an elegantly shot, sharply edited and strongly conceived and directed four minutes of film-making. Colour me impressed. You managed to imply a whole range of character options for us, from which entirely plausible narrative solutions spilled. Very fine, courageous work from you and your actors. I hit the heart to say I’d been there. I hope it helps and i will certainly make sure my guys do the same.
Bloody good work, my friend.
My entry for Drafthouse Films’ ABCs of Death short film contest. Winner ends up in the final movie! If you like it, please vote! Four minutes long, have fun!
Just entered JT Petty’s Hellbenders 3-D contest. They have 19 entries. They’re picking three to cut into the film. We’ll know July 1st! I had a great time making this with New York actor Nate Faust (www.natefaust.com) and New York musician Bliss Blood of the Pain Teens (www.blissblood.com). Here’s the vid!
I entered the Kuchar Brothers-inspired film contest for the documentary IT CAME FROM KUCHAR. You can vote once a day, every day, until March 26. Final voting is April 2nd by the judges and the Kuchar Brothers themselves! Winners get screened and live-streamed on April 9th, the film’s theatrical premiere. Cheers!
Hey! If you’ve got a moment please merely click on the below and help me get some views for my contest entry for the Washington State Bar Association’s The Promise of Justice for All contest. And vote if you feel like it. I know it’s not my usual thing but I’m happy I made something else videowise. Thanks!
